The New Mayor of Swanley for 2026-2027, Cllr Michael Horwood.
Swanley Town Council is pleased to announce that Councillor Michael Horwood has been elected as Mayor of Swanley following the Annual Council Meeting held on 6th May 2026.
Councillor Horwood represents Christchurch Ward and now the town as Mayor.
He is an experienced Councillor, and brings to the role a wealth of experience, compassion and dedication.
He previously served as Mayor from 2023-24, where he raised a then record making £7,000 for his charity.
In his acceptance speech, Councillor Horwood stated: “It is a great privilege to serve Swanley and Swanley Village for the coming year as its Mayor.
I truly look forward to meeting even more people in the community and representing our Town at District and County events.”
Councillor Horwood is supported by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lesley Dyball.
As Mayor, Councillor Horwood will undertake a range of ceremonial duties and serve as the public face of the Council at various civic, and community events.
His initiatives will focus on a strong commitment to community service and civic engagement, and he has expressed his enthusiasm for representing the town over the coming year.
As part of his mayoral term, Councillor Horwood has chosen to support three charities:
Home-Start North West Kent, A vital local charity that provides practical and emotional support to families with young children who may be facing challenges such as isolation, mental health difficulties, or financial hardship.
Volunteers work alongside parents to help give children the best possible start in life.
In his previous time as Mayor Councillor Horwood had this as his charity and has seen firsthand the good work they do to support disadvantaged Swanley families.
Swanley Therapy Centre, A community focussed health centre offering support and rehabilitation for people living with physical disabilities and health conditions.
The centre provides access to specialist equipment and therapies designed to improve mobility, independence and quality of life.
Councillor Horwood is also a Trustee of the Centre.
The Marfan Trust, A national charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by Marfan Syndrome and related conditions.
The Marfan Trust funds research, raises awareness and provides resources and support to those living with this genetic disorder.
Councillor Horwood has chosen this in recognition and respect of the former Independent Hextable Parish Chaiman and District Councillor, Councillor Darren Kitchener, who was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome, and passed away at the end of last year.
The Mayor is proud to support these incredible charities.
Each of them plays a crucial role in improving lives, whether that is supporting families, enhancing independence or advancing vital medical research.
