Swanley Town Council had planned as part of their VE Day celebrations for the official unveiling of 3 benches.
Unfortunately these plans had to be placed on hold due to the Coronavirus.
Wednesday 4th November before Lockdown, The Mayor of Swanley Councillor Lesley Dyball unveiled the benches:
Bench 1 Hands and hats being thrown into the air in celebration, Winston Churchill’s iconic V for Victory hand gesture and the Union Flag. Installed at St Mary’s Church. (Please see image above)
Bench 2 WW1 Bench incorporates the image of soldiers, crosses and poppies and is installed in the Town Centre.
Bench 3 Lest We Forget Bench incorporates the image of a war horse, soldiers and poppies and is installed outside Army Cadets Hall in Swanley Lane.
The Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Lesley Dyball said: “Due to the strange circumstances we find ourselves in, we at the Swanley Town Council were unable to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day as we would have liked.
However, I’m sure you will be as thrilled as I am with the new benches.”
