Swanley has proudly won five top awards in the prestigious ‘South East In Bloom’ competition, a regional competition with hundreds of town and parish councils participating every year.
The competition assesses town council land for its management, appearance and community usage.
This year the town council entered five categories.
Overall, our town was awarded with a ‘Silver Gilt’ – the second highest award the competition gives.
Swanley Recreation Ground was called out as a gold ‘category winner’ and Swanley Park, and Swanley Nature Reserve also were awarded the top gold award.
The maintenance of St Mary’s Churchyard, which the town council support with, was also awarded a bronze award.
This could not have been achieved without the huge amount of work put in by Swanley Town Council staff and of course the help of numerous volunteers including the members of SWAN, who look after and maintain the Nature Reserve located in Swanley Park and is well worth a visit if you have not yet been.
Mayor of Swanley, Cllr Paul Darrington, said “Swanley’s floral display is once again superb and provides a much-needed lift after the difficulties we have been experiencing since the pandemic hit in March 2020.
Thank you and well done and thank you to all involved in making this happen.”
Toni Roast, Assistant Town Clerk said “I am ecstatic that not only have we received five awards but we are category winners. I would like to thank the whole team and our volunteers for their hard work and commitment which has resulted in us receiving these awards.”
The results were as follows:
- Commons and Open Spaces – Swanley Recreation Ground – Gold and Category Winner.
- Small Nature Reserve – Swanley Nature Reserve (SWAN) – Gold.
- Large Park of the Year – Swanley Park – Gold.
- Large Town – Swanley – Silver Gilt.
- Churchyard – St Mary’s Churchyard – Bronze.
