On the 25th May 2021 the Mayor of Swanley Cllr Paul Darrington presented Sonyer Ellard with her KALC Award.
Sonyer was put forward for the award for her outstanding work as a volunteer during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Assistant Town Clerk Toni Roast said “ I had no hesitation in nominating Sonyer for this award for her outstanding work and commitment.”
Sonyer was one of the first people to sign up as a volunteer to help those who were self-isolating. Sonyer and her husband Drew often completed multiple shopping trips daily, in addition to delivering prescriptions and talking to residents who were lonely.
Sonyer works at “We Are Beams” in Hextable and was originally furloughed from her job, but this only lasted for four weeks.
Returning to work did not change Sonyer’s volunteering commitment and Sonyer continues to shop for residents with whom she has built up a special rapport.
Sonyer said “As a parent of a disabled child/adult I don’t see this as a big challenge, this is our normal, although life can be harder at times. It was lovely to have it recognised, as well as the other things I/we accomplished”.
