Make sure you’re registered to vote in time for the local elections this May
On Thursday 2 May, residents in Sevenoaks District will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them on District, Town and Parish Councils.
Residents will have an opportunity to elect their District Councillors who are responsible for services such as rubbish and recycling collections, street cleaning, planning, parking, housing, health, leisure and public safety.
They will also have an opportunity to vote for their local Town or Parish Councillors, who are responsible for parks and recreations grounds, allotments and burial grounds amongst other things.
To vote in these important elections, residents must be on the electoral register. The deadline to register to vote is fast approaching and Sevenoaks District Council is urging residents to make sure they are registered in time.
The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Friday 12 April. Anyone can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. It takes just five minutes.
Dr. Pav Ramewal, Sevenoaks District Council’s Chief Executive and Electoral Returning Officer, says: “Time is running out to make sure you can take part in the local elections.
These elections are an opportunity to have your say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in the Sevenoaks District. If you’re not registered by 12 April, you won’t be able to vote.”
