The Parish of Swanley was once know as the 'Home of Flowers' as thirty horticultural nurseries once grew and sold plants in the area. Over the past ten years the Parish has become renowned for its spectacular flowerbeds, hanging baskets, tree and shrub planting and bright spring flower bulbs.

Various awards have been achieved in the Parish in the Britain in Bloom initiative including Best Town in the South East (2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006). The Town Council leads this campaign and is supported by local residents and volunteers, schools and uniformed groups who take part in litter picks, planting projects and maintain wonderful gardens.   Local competitions in residential gardens and hanging baskets, business premises, pubs or restaurants and schools.  Special awards are made to junior gardeners and new entrants.

In support of the Swanley in Bloom initiative the Town Council runs a clean up campaign each spring and equips volunteer groups with litter picking sticks, bags and gloves.  New volunteers are always welcome.  Other projects include bulb planting with schools and volunterrs, and funding advice and practical help is also given to voluntary groups , schools and uniformed groups seeking ways to improve the local environment.
