SWANLEY GETS EVEN GREENER

The Town Council has purchased a Biofuel Pod unit that converts used cooking oil into biodiesel.

The Pod cost just £2,500 and with the biodiesel now in production it is estimated that the Town Council will save that amount on its fuel costs every year. The pod uses waste cooking oil from kitchens at the Town Council’s facilities at The Olympic and other Swanley Banqueting venues.

This is another step on the way to making Swanley Town Council's activities carbon neutral, to help stop harmful

climate change and goes alongside the solar energy that is already being used at other Town Council sites.

MAYORAL TOUR

ALL ABOARD FOR THE TOUR

The tour included visits to the Town Council's Banqueting facilities, play areas, open spaces, the new water play area at Swanley Park and also included a trip on the Swanley New Barn Railway.

As the sun shone, the Mayor and his guests enjoyed a buffet lunch in a marquee overlooking the lake at Swanley Park. All those who took part in the tour said that they had had a great time...and could not wait for another trip on the train!

PLANNING DECISION

TOWN COUNCIL OBJECTS TO PLANNING DEVELOPMENT AT FORMER LAUNDRY SITE – BONNEY WAY

At the meeting of the Town Council’s Development Control Committee on Wednesday 2 July, the Council unanimously voted to object to the proposal for the demolition of the existing laundry buildings and the erection of 68 new dwellings.

The committee raised a number of objections, highlighting the concerns of local residents that the proposal may have on the surrounding area. These objections included a loss of amenity due to the noise that such a large development would bring to local neighbours, the loss of privacy to residents in Woodlands Close caused by the height of some of the proposed buildings and concerns over highways safety due to the increase in vehicle movements that such a development would bring.

The Council’s objections will be heard at Sevenoaks District Council, who will make the final decision on whether planning permission will be granted. The Town Councillors requested that the matter be dealt with by full committee when it is considered by the District Council.
